Why Scotland ?

Scotland 2018

After we had tried out the Giant Explore E-Bikes mountain bike version from a rental outfit in the german alps for a weekend in 2017 and bought our own special versions from Mario Hausmann later in 2017 and beginning of 2018 we needed a destination that was:

  • hilly
  • not too hot
  • reachable by train to transport the bikes
  • having a local language we spoke
  • a place we hadn't been to yet

Scotland was in the shortlist together with czechoslovakia and estonia. When checking out the list of world-wide whisky-distilleries Scotland got the pole position :-)

We spent quite a bit of time to figure out a decent itineray and came up with this plan of places where to stay:

The focus of our plan was the Isle of Jura and specifically Corryvreckan.
